Worms is transcending its turn-based tactical artillery shooter with Worms Rumble. The game will be the franchise’s first real-time, arena-based 32-player shooter.
Worms Rumble will be a 2.5 D side-scrolling battle game, reminiscent of old 90s shooters. The isometric camera angle gives the game an unbelievable mixture of old and new Worms. The dev company, Team 17, was happy to announce new modes and give away a new trailer.
New Rumble game takes all the good things about modern shooters
Worms is one of the most iconic multiplayer party games of all time. The artillery shooter game lauded for its unique gameplay and action-packed 2D battles. The title is so beloved that the game has released new titles since its first release in 1995.
The new Rumble game seems like a combination of a few titles, taking everything good from each. The title looks like a combo of Duck Game and the old Digimon Rumble Arena. The game also has some elements of Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare sprinkled on it.
Based on the trailer, the combat will be as frantic as old arena shooters like Quake. Players have a ton of verticality, allowing them to move quickly through shafts. Every worm seems to be customizable to an extent as well.
Every map in Rumble seems small and focused on a ton of wanton destruction. The cramped spaces mean it’s easier to run after enemies that players are hunting. There is a metric tonnage of weapons too.
Players have access to gatling guns, shotguns, rocket launchers, and much more. The features of the new Worms game is also nothing to scoff at the moment.
Rumble offers a ton of new features for revolutionary Worms gameplay
Much of the trailer for Worms Rumble underscores a ton of new features. Many of these exemplify the beauty of the old Worms titles as a shooter. The trailer also shows off a lot of good, simple things that make the new game robust.
First, the game supports crossplay, which means players can battle across platforms. Many players will likely be on the PC, so crossplay means gamers can fight across storefronts.
The game offers two modes that take advantage of the 32-player game. One is deathmatch, which offers the classic red vs blue team fights. The other is the timeless battle royale, which is a last man standing match.
Rumble also has single and squad-based matches, together with real-time combat. The game still has scant details, so fans should still wait and see.
Worms Rumble will be available for PC, Playstation 4, and Playstation 5. There is no official release date yet, but the official Steam page shows 2020.
